TENUTA VILLA ROVERE “PIRRO” 2015 IGT WINE FROM EMILIA-ROMAGNA
(Merlot IGT “Pirro” from San Martino in Strada, Forlì)
An international grapes variety, perfectly adapted to the climate and soil of Emilia Romagna to give birth to “Pirro”, austere and harmonious red wine.
TASTING NOTES – What’s in the glass?
Pirro retains a perfect ruby red colour, with garnet reflections when ageing. In the nose, there are many fruity notes of wild red fruits, such as raspberries, blackberries and blueberries, with a very far maraschino vein. There is also a powerful spicy aroma, typical of the vine, rich in black pepper and cloves hints. It’s already ripe in the mouth, ready to drink, but it can give other great satisfaction in the coming years. The tannic structure is silky, so Pirro results as a very enjoyable red. Good consistency and persistence. Every sip of Pirro is characterised by a very lovely cinnamon dash.
FLAVOUR STYLE: Full-Bodied Red
PARING – What do I pair with?
Merlot wine matches with a wide variety of foods because of its position in the middle of the red wine spectrum. In general Merlot pairs well with chicken and other light meats as well as lightly-spiced dark meats.
ABOUT TENUTA VILLA ROVERE
Tenuta Villa Rovere is located at the foot of Terra del Sole, a charming town founded by Cosimo de’ Medici in the 16th century, conceived as the ideal town of Renaissance period. Terra del Sole, or Heliopolis – meaning Town of the Sun – rests on the ancient road running between Forlì and Florence underneath the fortress of Monte Poggiolo.
The vineyards, surrounded by the Montone River and the Mill Stream, are cultivated under unique microclimatic conditions over six hectares of poly-clonal and poly-varietal vines.
WINEMAKING NOTES – How is it made?
The harvest begins in the second half of September and farmers pick grapes by hand and put them in wooden bins. Once in the cellar, the selection of the grapes takes place in two periods, first immediately after picking and then after destemming operations, as a result to guarantee that only completely ripe berries go to the fermentation tanks. The maceration lasts approximately 12 days while the fermentation takes place at the same time in stainless steel tanks. Then, the wine goes directly in Caucasian oak barrels, where, in conclusion, it matures for 12 months. Consequently, Pirro remains 4 months more in the bottle before the release.
