VILLANOVIANA BOLGHERI DOC “IMENEO” 2015 – TOSCANA
(Bolgheri DOC “Imeneo” from Bolgheri, Livorno)
Imeneo was the son of Bacchus and Venus, the god invoked during the most important ceremonies and during the wedding procession. Inspired by this legend, Villanoviana Winery produces an important wine to accompany the most joyful moments.
60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot
TASTING NOTES – What’s in the glass?
Imeneo retains a perfect ruby red colour, with purple shades. It expresses slight fruity notes, such as dark plums and cherries, leaving more space for the spicy bouquet that includes notes of black pepper, cloves, paprika and cumin. The vegetable aromas, typical of the Cabernet Sauvignon grape variety, come in the nose with a bit of delay, with hints of fresh mint leaves and green peppers. In the mouth, it is pleasantly pasty, robust and incredibly harmonious. Imeneo has a perfect structure, balanced by a weak citric note in the final. Tannins are polished by the refined wood finishing. Excellent texture and length. An all-Italian Bordeaux blend.
FLAVOUR STYLE: Full-Bodied Red
PARING – What do I pair with?
Imeneo is definitely a food-friendly wine. It is suitable for all the meal long, both with pasta and main courses. It achieves its best match with red meats, grilled or roasted, and with extra-aged-cheese.
The Villanova Winery was born from a true passion for good wines, made as the traditions of the past required. Above all, the Winery was born from the dream of Marco Belli and Barbara Monacelli. They chose the name Villanoviana inspired by the ancient civilisation, predecessors of the Etruscans. Organic farming methods on only 4 hectares.
WINEMAKING NOTES – How is it made?
The harvest begins in the second half of September and farmers pick grapes by hand and put them in wooden bins. Once in the cellar, the selection of the grapes takes place in two periods, first immediately after picking and then after destemming operations, as a result to guarantee that only completely ripe berries go to the fermentation tanks. The maceration lasts approximately 20 days while the fermentation takes place at the same time in stainless steel tanks. Then, the wine goes directly into French oak barrels, where, in conclusion, it matures for 10 months. Consequently, Imeneo remains 6 months more in the bottle before the release.
